Metrorail train derails at Hercules

At approximately 20h45 this evening a commuter train traveling from Eerste Fabrieke towards Mabopane has derailed at Hercules, northern side of Pretoria. The train had 5 commuters at the time of the accident and no injuries are reported.

No trains will operate between Hercules and Capital Park for the morning peak until the accident scene is cleared.

Shuttle buses will be provided as alternative transport for commuters with valid train tickets between Hercules and Capital Park stations to allow commuters to connect trains to various destinations as follows for the morning peak:

▪Trains to Pretoria and Belle Ombre from Mabopane and De Wildt will not be affected and will run normal.

▪Mabopane trains via Capital Park (13) will turn at Belle Ombre, commuters will connect buses to Capital Park.

▪The shuttle service between Hercules and Koedeospoort (12) will be affected, 1 shuttle train will run between Capital Park – Koedoespoort.

▪Shuttle buses between Hercules – Capital Park.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage.

Metrorail management sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and pleads with commuters and employers to be patient as technicians work hard around the clock to restore the affected lines.
