The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Lin Songtian, delivered a keynote speech at the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute Symposium on Thursday morning in Pretoria.
The Symposium was themed under – Civilizational harmonies in the mist of a clash of civilizations. The Chinese Ambassador, Mr Songtian said that today’s world is faced with multiple global challenges and of which those challenges don’t only call for the development of economy, science and technology, but also cultural and civilization.
“Diversity spurs interaction amongst civilizations, which in turn promotes mutual learning and their further development” said Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China and Chairman of the central Military Commission.
Jinping called on the international community to build a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation , advance the Belt and Road initiative for win-win cooperation and common development and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.
The Chinese propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping to build a beautiful world are consistent with African countries’ philosophy on pursuing national rejuvenation and world peace as well as South Africa’s Ubuntu philosophy of “I am because we are”. It is China’s sincere hope that people hyping up the so called “clash of civilizations” in the US will walk out of the jungle, and try to learn to live in harmony, respect and treat each other as equals.
